It is is rich in monuments, history and unforgettable landscapes.<\/p>\n<p>The visitor passing through this territory will enjoy<em>\u00a0<\/em>the\u00a0<strong>ancient atmosphere of the past<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vicopisano<\/strong>, formerly known as\u00a0<strong>Vico Auserissola,<\/strong>\u00a0starting from the tenth century was owned by the bishops of Lucca, repeatedly besieged by the city of\u00a0<strong>Lucca<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Pisa<\/strong>\u00a0and struggling with finally won by\u00a0<strong>Florence<\/strong>\u00a0at the end of the fifteenth century.<\/p>\n<p>Formerly, the course of the Arno river flowed right next to\u00a0<strong>Vicopisano<\/strong>, where it received an influx of another major watercours, the\u00a0<strong>Auser<\/strong>(today Serezza), the outlet channel of the largest lake in Tuscany,\u00a0<strong>Lake Sextum<\/strong>, then drained.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"stacks_div stacks_right\">\n<div id=\"stacks_out_589_page21\" class=\"stacks_out\">\n<div id=\"stacks_in_589_page21\" class=\"stacks_in\">\n<div class=\"stacks_div stacks_float_left\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Vicopisano<\/strong>\u00a0reached its highest fame level as a\u00a0<strong>village and as a military citadel\u00a0<\/strong>during the\u00a0<strong>Republic of Pisa<\/strong>, knowing gradually over a period of decay, but it was during the control of\u00a0<strong>Florence<\/strong>\u00a0that it had been built the most important construction projects and the city was equipped with impressive works of fortification, as the great tower (&#8220;Il Mastio&#8221;) thanks to the work of\u00a0<strong>Brunelleschi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Several other towers are still distinguishable: the fourteenth-century<strong>Clock Tower<\/strong>, the tower called the Four-door (Torre delle Quattro Porte, the tower of Soccorso as well as the\u00a0<strong>Praetorian Palace (Palazzo Pretorio)<\/strong>\u00a0in the medieval period, now the Municipio.<\/p>\n<p>The town contains the remains of\u00a0<strong>castles<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>ancient fortifications<\/strong>, as well as the\u00a0<strong>wonderful parish church\u00a0<\/strong>in 1200, just outside the village, and many other historic churches scattered throughout the territory at the foot of\u00a0<strong>Monti Pisani<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For information on the town of\u00a0<strong>Vicopisano<\/strong>\u00a0visit the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.viconet.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external\">official website<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":757,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-827","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.9 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Vicopisano Medieval Village - Bed &amp;
